We’ve been wondering what’s going to happen to GambleAware. Finally we know, sort of…

As part of the transition to the new statutory gambling levy, arrangements have been put in place to ensure that individuals who are at risk of, or experiencing, gambling harm can continue to access information and support without interruption.

The Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), which will act as the prevention commissioner under the new levy system, will take ownership of the existing GambleAware website.

Continuity of support during the transition

GambleAware is due to cease operations on 31 March 2026. To maintain continuity of support, OHID will keep the GambleAware website live after this date.

The website will remain available for at least 12 months, meaning it will stay online until at least March 2027. This temporary arrangement is intended to ensure that tools, guidance and signposting remain accessible while new arrangements are put in place.

Future digital prevention offer

OHID has confirmed that it intends to transition away from the current GambleAware website and develop a new digital prevention offer, funded through the statutory levy. This new service will form part of the longer‑term public health approach to preventing gambling‑related harm.

Further information about the new digital offer, including how users will be directed to support, is expected to be published in due course.

What this means for licensees

During this transition period, licensees should continue to adhere to the BGC‑IGRG Gambling Industry Code for Socially Responsible Advertising. This includes the appropriate use of safer gambling messaging and signposting to support services where required.

Operators should also continue to monitor updates from the Gambling Commission and OHID to ensure ongoing compliance as the new levy arrangements are implemented.
